#TeamQwantBetween the 3rd and the 8th of February we attended the Campus Party Brazil 2015 in Sao Paulo.
1st question: Why there?
Brazil represents the future! Following Snowden’s revelations, it has been one of the first countries to rise against mass surveillance. There is a great amount of specialists, geeks, hackers and bloggers running the internet environment.
The Campus Party Brazil welcomes 100 000 persons during 4 days with 8 000 campuseros (geeks and gamers, coming from all parts of Brazil, camping into the exhibition’s room).
So when we’ve had the opportunity to participate to one of the biggest tech event in the world, we said YES!
2nd question: What was the plan?
We started with a booth! Colorful, digital and relating to France and Brazil. We wanted to highlight the monuments and symbols that each country can be proud of. Brazilians discovered and tested Qwant through playful activities.
Eric Leandri our CEO offered his vision and projects through keynote speeches.
Failcon: “An entrepreneur’s life is full of mistakes and failures . It is part of the challenge ! You have to deal with it and learn from it. Eric Leandri will share his own experience. From an idea to a search engine.”
Machine learning and web semantics : “Eric Leandri (CEO/CTO) will reveal how Qwant.com uses machine learning and semantics to crawl the web and give meaning to data. He will explain semantics complexity by using cooking recipes from Morena Leite. To put an end to this keynote, we invite you to join us for a colorful cocktail prepared by Capim Santo’s team.”
UFC BATTLE STARTUP FINALISTS ORGANIZED BY QWANT : CONGRATULATIONS TO WIKI4FIT, GUARDPET, PIZZ, LEGENDA SONORA AND PONTOEDUCA.
Internet of “every”things : “Internet is no longer a set of web pages. It is full of “objects”. As a search engine you cannot ignore social networks, APIs and unstructured data. You must consider the web as a “whole “. Welcome to the web 3.0.”
We couldn’t go there without challenging the Hackers community. Security is a big concern, so we are always looking for loopholes and improvements. As for the Nuit du Hack we set up a Hackers contest.
Hackers contest : “For the first time in Campus Party Brazil history , Qwant will challenge Hackers. “Hunters” will go out looking for “bugs” in the system. They’ll have a deadline and rules. If a “loophole” is revealed, then the hunter will be compensated in proportion to the seriousness of the threat.”
Campus party Brazil has been a tremendous journey. Thanks to partners such as Ubisoft Brazil, BusinessFrance Brazil, FrenchTech, Uniqlo or Capim Santo, we have been able to share experiences, meet interesting people and introduce our philosophy and values which are privacy, no tracking and security. Brazil is definitely the place to be.
Our special thanks go to Campus Party Brazil for its amazing welcome and the wonderful opportunity to be tested by the thousand of participants that enjoyed our activities and the Brazilian version of Qwant.
A single word: Obrigado!
